Scotland: Takeaway Food

Apparently one of the big differences between Scotland and USA in terms of restaurants is that it is rather difficult to get a decent box for your leftover food. Now if you order from a place that specializes in “takeaway,” no problem. But all the other places I encountered really didn’t have much in the way of sturdy containers for taking home your leftovers. Here is a sample of some of the arrangements we were sent home with.

Boxes with no lids, just bagged up.

Open bag for my kid's burger and fries: a little hard to carry around to the shops on the way back to our place.

One place just told me outright that all they had to give me for my daughter’s pasta (which of course she barely ate any of) was a plastic bag.

On the bright side, the wait staff at the typical restaurant in Scotland does not expect a tip.
